OneDrive is about the same price as Dropbox with Office365, so I decided to switch from Dropbox to OneDrive when Dropbox renewed, and here are my impressions after using OneDrive for a while.
The following is my impression of OneDrive for Business precisely because of the following circumstances.
test environment
I tried copying some of the folders I was using in Dropbox to OneDrive.
It is about 30 GB and 500,000 files.
I copied the folder to OneDrive on "PC_UP", uploaded the folder to OneDrive, and synchronized it to "PC_DOWN" and "iPhone".
setup time
Uploading from "PC_UP" to OneDrive in the cloud takes about half a day.
Synchronization from OneDrive in the cloud to "PC_DOWN" and "iPhone" takes about half a day.
Two days was all it took to complete the upload and synchronization.
Dropbox also took quite a while to sync to the newly added PC, so I guess that's about it.
problem
Some files cannot be uploaded.
Some of the files in the "_MACOSX" folder, created when unzipping the Mac Zip, could not be uploaded due to file name issues.
It's not a problem because the file name was originally garbled and it's not an important file, but since Dropbox can upload the file, it's not a pleasant feeling to have a file that cannot be uploaded.
Conflicting files that I don't remember are generated.
PC_DOWN" connected to OneDrive from nothing but a download, but it created some conflicting files.
Actually, I tried it once a long time ago when OneDrive first came out, but I frequently got conflict errors and could not upload.
This time, I have not done the upload process from "PC_DOWN", so it has not been confirmed, but since the conflict occurs at the time of downloading, I think it is quite likely to happen when the uploading process is started.
Synchronization is slow
With the synchronization settled and up-to-date, I uploaded, updated, renamed, and deleted several files and folders of several hundred KB from "PC_UP".
When I make a change, the OneDrive app immediately detects it and tries to locate the update, which takes 3-5 minutes, and then finally starts uploading to the OneDrive in the cloud.
Then, reflection from the cloud to "PC_DOWN" took another 3-5 minutes after the upload was completed.
In other words, it took about 10 minutes for the update to be reflected on the other terminals.
With Dropbox, the upload to the cloud is complete within seconds of the change, and within a minute it is synced to the other PC, so this delay is painful.
Unstable synchronization of iPhone apps
The iPhone app was unusable because there were some files/folders that did not sync well.
Deletion on the web does not work.
When I tried to delete a large number of files at once in OneDrive web, I could not delete them with an error.
Deleting the files to be deleted in small chunks works, but it takes several minutes to delete each small chunk.
Conclusion.
It is "slow" and "unstable" and I am always worried if it is uploaded properly and synced to other devices.
I personally used Dropbox as a "tool to sync local working directories between devices, I felt that OneDrive is not suited for such a quick synchronization of small miscellaneous files.
Like Google Drive, the main focus is on web storage sharing, with the ability to mount local storage as an added bonus.
The same cloud storage has very different characteristics.
Dropbox seems to be the right choice for my use, and I've decided to renew my billing maturely.
